In Episode 72, Ben chats with Kristen Bottema-Beutel, Ph.D. Much of Kristen's research is in the area of research ethics and quality. She and her team have analyzed countless autism intervention studies including many in applied behaviour analysis and has found some startling results. ABA research is especially problematic when it comes to a lack of randomization, failure to report conflicts of interest, and very little data on adverse events. This episode will change how you read and interpret research.

In Episode 67, Ben chats with Drs. Nasiah Cirincione-Ulezi and Jonathan Tarbox. This conversation digs deep into humility, compassion, and reflection. They apply these concepts to imposter syndrome, empathy, kindness, service, and more.
Host Note: This was by far one of the most personally impactful interviews I've done. I have so much gratitude for Dr. Cirincione-Ulezi's mentorship. She has taught me so much about recognizing and acknowledging my own biases (and do I ever have A LOT of biases) and most of all she taught me the true value of sitting with my discomfort. Similarly, Dr. Tarbox has been such a model for me. He has shown me over and over again how someone with so much power and privilege in our field can use that power to be of service to others and uplift voices. SO MUCH GRATITUDE!

In this episode, I chat with the late Dr. Lyz Hughes-Fong about all things cultural (competence, humility, sensitivity, awareness, and understanding). We discuss diversity trends in behavior analysis and suggestions for moving forward.
It is with extreme sadness and sorrow that we share the passing of our very dear friend and colleague, Dr. Elizabeth “Lyz” Hughes Fong on February 29, 2024. Dr. Hughes Fong’s pivotal work in cultural competency and humility sparked a movement that has forever shaped the field of behavior analysis toward increased diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Lyz was an active member of St. John Chrysostom Church and The Springhaven Club in Wallingford.
Lyz was a shining light. Her work and its impact will forever be part of our history and growth. But most importantly, her kind, thoughtful, selfless, and warm spirit will forever be part of our hearts. She had a way of fostering genuine human connection; she brought people together and forged long-lasting friendships that will endure in her absence.
Lyz is survived by a husband, parents, sister, and a daughter. She was deeply dedicated to her child's happiness, education, and well-being. In lieu of flowers, donations to support the higher education of Dr. Fong's daughter are appreciated.
On behalf of her husband and family, thank you! Please consider donating to the Go Fund Me link below.
